Wide nasal bridge after hump removal. Could this be part of the healing process? (Photo)

Hi,It is too early at 2 months to make comment on the final result of the rhinoplasty, and there will be more changes to come in the next few months. As long as those changes are pleasing to see - all is well.Talk to the surgeon about the technique used, as usually a hump reduction needs narrowing of the nasal base to narrow the bridge as he hump is removed.I hope that helpsJeremy Hunt

Thank you for your question and images. A widening of the nasal bridge does occur when you reduce a dorsal hump due to the pyramidal shape of the nasal bones. This widening is minimised with nasal in fractures but I always discuss this occurrence prior to surgery with my patients. At present I would allow the swelling to settle and review with your surgeon. RegardsDr Guy Watts

Great question.  Simply shaving down or cutting the hump of the nasal dorsum naturally widens the nose since that part of the nose has a pyramid type shape.  Reshaping the cartilage in that area of in-fracturing the nasal bones is often needed to prevent widening of the front view of the nasal dorsum when the dorsal hump is removed.  This can still be done after the fact but will require a revision surgery if that is intact the case.All the best,Dr. Remus Repta
