After Rhinoplasty, the tip of my nose looks different on both sides. Any suggestions? (photo)

Im almost 16 years old and about 4 weeks ago I got a nose job to fix my deviated septum and also make a few improvements to my nose. But ive been noticing the tip on both sides of my nose looks really different. Its a lot bigger and more round on the left side but on the right side it appears to just go down straight. Should I be worried? I know four weeks is a bit early but how could they be so different on each side?

You are right--4 weeks is quite a "bit early!" This could be swelling from sleeping more on one side than the other, slightly more bleeding on one side that may reabsorb, or may turn to scar tissue, more scar tension on one side causing distortion in the cartilages, and yes, the surgeon could have done something differently on one side than the other.But are you going to worry for 6-12 months, which is the earliest a revision should be contemplated? Thank you for your question, and thank you for the photo.You're correct that it's difficult to tell at 4 weeks whether or not your nose will look this way permanently.  I usually tell my patients that they should expect that approximately 60% of their swelling will be gone by 1 month after surgery, 70% by 2 months, 80% by 3 months, and 90% by 6 months.  That means that at 4 weeks, you can expect to still have about 40% of the swelling remaining.  It is not uncommon for the nose to evolve asymmetrically - one side may stay swollen longer than the other, but they usually even out by 6-12 months after surgery.I would suggest that you speak with your surgeon about your concerns - your surgeon is best-equipped to answer your questions, since he was there for the whole procedure.  If you're still concerned, don't be afraid to seek a second opinion - you're entitled to be comfortable with your surgical plan and the team you've chosen to carry it out.Best wishes!
