How long must you wear compression garments after liposuction of hips and thighs?

This is something to discuss with your surgeon who knows you best. For my patients, I want them to wear the compression garment for 4 to 6 weeks to control swelling and promote skin retraction. I want them to start light walking right away but to avoid any type of formal exercise for 4 to 6 weeks. Good luck.

Thank you for your question. I usually have my patients wear a custom fitted compression garment for at least three weeks following surgery. I encourage them to wear it as long as as they can comfortably tolerate it after that. I have them transition over to a spanx type garment after that as long as they are doing well. Every patient is different so the exact time periods vary depending on how well the individual patient is recovering from surgery. As always, I encourage you to see a board certified plastic surgeon and follow their specific recommendations.

This is a common question for me, especially with our hot climate.  After liposuction I usually recommend wearing a garment for 3-4 weeks and then after that you may find during the day it feels more comfortable on than off.  Everyone is different in how much bruising & swelling they have, but this is a good guide.  The other thought is to just spend most of your recovery time indoors in the air conditioning.  All the best
