Did the bump on my nose grow after nasal fracture surgery?

I broke my nose about two weeks ago, & last week had to get my nasal passages reconstructed by having surgery. Although nothing cosmetic was done, I took the splint off yesterday with my Dr. and the bump on the bridge of my nose is way bigger than it used to be. I think it looks horrible. My doctor says it is swelling, but its there any way that it could be permanent from the surgery? I need to make sure I am not overreacting, as it has caused a lot more self-consciousness.

After injury or even surgery to the nose, it can become REALLY swollen, and this swelling can take a LONG TIME to resolve (up to 1-2 years to fully resolve). It is hard to say exactly what is going on in your case, given how soon after the injury and surgery you are- and even if the "bump" is larger, nothing would typically be done to address it until at least 1 year after this recent surgery anyway. I advise all my nasal fracture and rhinoplasty patients to keep their head elevated for 1-2 weeks, minimize any pressure or touching of the nose (especially for the first month), and BE PATIENT as it can take months or years to see what the final nose will be.
