Compression is used over all sites treated with liposuction, smartlipo or otherwise, to help squeeze fluid out of the tissues and to minimize swelling. It doesn't make much difference whether you use compression garments, ace bandages or both so long as they are tight enough, but not too tight. You have bruising that seems to have localized along pressure zones from your ace bandages. This should resolve in a few weeks.
It appears you have significant swelling and bruising post surgery and this may be due to the compression or your healing process. Best, Dr. Emer.

Yes, you need to have good compression after liposuction. A space is created when the fat is removed and the wrapping/garment helps to eliminate that space and help you heal correctly. Be sure to keep your wraps on for as long as your board certified plastic surgeon recommends.Thank you for your question and for sharing your picture!Melinda Lacerna, MD FACS
