What is the best time of day for a diabetic to have a tummy tuck surgery?

Regardless of what time your surgery is at, there will be a time period per anesthesia guidelines that you cannot eat or drink prior to your surgery; it is not dependent on time of day. Your surgery facility will check your blood sugar while they are preparing your for surgery, and can give you something in your IV if your blood sugar is too low. Be sure to consult your primary doctor or whoever is managing your diabetes before making any changes to your medications related to surgery, or otherwise. This is a big surgery, and stress on the body can have an impact on blood sugar levels, so make sure to keep all of your doctors in the loop.

You should be fine to have your procedure as scheduled. It is important that you strictly follow your surgeon's orders to have nothing to eat or drink after midnight before surgery unless specifically instructed otherwise. This is for your safety while under anesthesia. I encourage you to discuss your concerns with your surgeon. Your blood glucose will be taken when you get to the hospital and treated accordingly.

Most anesthesiologist want people to avoid eating solid foods for eight hours before surgery. Sometimes clear liquids are allowed for another few hours longer.

In someways it doesn’t matter what time of day the surgery is since the anesthesiologist typically will not put you to sleep if you’ve eaten within in 8 hours.

In regards to how to take your medication and blood sugar this is probably best managed by the doctor who’s managing your diabetes most likely your primary care doctor.

If not chosen a provider then I suggest scheduling multiple consultations with local board-certified plastic surgeons in your community.

In our practice, we try to schedule patients with concurrent illness for cosmetic surgery as early in the day as possible. This allows for a longer time in the post anesthesia care area where close monitoring can be performed. Make sure that your internist or endocrinologist is "up to speed" regarding the procedure and your medications on the day of surgery.
I suggest you call the surgical facility where surgery is to be performed and ask for their preoperative protocol. We recommend nothing by mouth for 8 hours prior to surgery.
