Answer: Fat necrosis after a BBL You should go and see your surgeon directly. That's the best plan. I can tell you with my experience with fat necrosis after a BBL (it is better explained in the linked video) but essentially there can be little areas of fat that dies slowly after the transfer because of a lack of oxygen and sometimes years later those areas of dead fat slowly make it to the surface and they can be very painful and they can look like an infection but it is your body trying to extrude the dead fat.

Answer: Something is wrong 6 years after BBL - can someone please explain? Hello @ramayad, thank you for your question. Any kind of abnormality about the process must be analyzed, because there is no way to have a treatment if you are not clear about what is going on. The first step may be to do an ultrasound of the area. The best course of action is to consult one or several board certified plastic surgeon for more information and options tailored specifically to your needs. Best wishes! Alan Gonzalez MD FACS

Answer: Bump and drainage Dear ramayad, I understand your concern. However, without a proper assessment, it would be difficult to determine what went wrong. Based on your photos, there is a chance that this is a fat necrosis. It is best that you visit your plastic surgeon for further assessment or ask for a second opinion. Only after a thorough examination, you can get proper recommendations and advice. You need immediate incision and drainage of the area. Seek a local Plastic Surgeon in your city if you do not hear back from your original surgeon. If you come to Miami, I could offer surgery. Best to virtual with...

Answer: Problem after BBL The timeframe of events is not clear based on your post. It looks to me like you’ve developed an abscess or infection and this probably needs to be treated right away. Infections are typically noted first by being very tender and then the area swells becomes more painful and feels warm. By the time fluid is draining the infection is usually quite advanced. The treatment is to surgically open and drain all the infected material. Fat necrosis usually presents within the first few months after the procedure and would not happen years later. Based on what you describe I would encourage you to seek medical attention immediately. I suggest going to the nearest emergency room. It would be particularly helpful if they have a plastic surgeon on call but any competent doctor including emergency room doctor or general surgeon should be able to help you with this. Generally speaking I do not recommend patients travel long distances for elective surgical procedures. The importance of having multiple in person consultations, the need for an in person follow up care, the number of people who end up needing revisions and that complications actually do happen seems to be forgotten by all too many. I recommend you do not wait further and seek medical care as soon as possible which most likely is going to the emergency room. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
