7 months ago I received Bellafill via cannula in the tear trough area which has has been disastrous. The collagen is gone so it looks like my body is rejecting this product. Only oral steroids keep the inflamed area in check. Since this product is most likely already spread in the tissue, excision seems futile? I am in desperate need of sound advice and/or second opinion here in Atlanta area. No allergy test was done beforehand (afterwards yes and was OK). IN DESPERATE NEED OF EXPERT ADVICE
Answer: What are my options 7 months after Bellafill procedure is causing inflamed reaction in tear trough area? No sure WHY Bellafill was used in the tear troughs??? But maybe 5-FluroUracil (FU) injections could help?????

CONTACT NOW Answer: Bellafill in tear troughs This product should not be used in tear troughs. I have seen many patients who have had problems like yours. Unfortunately I have not found medical management to be a successful long term solution. Surgical excision of the product is usually required but can be challenging. Each case is unique and needs to be handled on an individual basis. I suggest undergoing treatment by someone who is highly experienced in dealing with this particular issue. Best of luck.

Answer: Bellafill in Tear Troughs This is a tough question to answer, because Bellafill contains PMMA, which the body cannot absorb. Surgical removal may work, but this depends on whether the product was injected superficially, under the muscle, or in a multi-planar fashion. The severity of your symptoms may decrease in time, but best to get a few opinions in your area. Good luck.

Answer: Tear trough Bellafill is still a problem after 7 months of treatment Unfortunately, this problem most likely needs excision. The most common area for problems with Bellafill is the periocular area and most doctors recommend not injecting in this area. If done judiciously and deeply, Bellafill can be used, but not in your case. You have very thin skin and that is a set up for problems with tear trough filler - any filler. Allergy testing is for the collagen portion of the Bellafill. This collagen is degraded in 6 weeks approximately. You don't have an allergy to the product but chronic inflammation or infection. Injection with 5FU might be helpful but I suspect that surgery will give you the best resolution.

Answer: Bellafill on the Tear Trough and Inflammation. I am sorry to hear about your problem. From your photos it is difficult to see any inflammation. There are some skin changes evident but that is not likely from Bellafill. It may be an allergic reaction to something else. Bellafill allergic reactions, which are exceedingly rare are from the collagen, which makes up 85% of the initial fill when you first get injected. If you were allergic to the collagen you would have gotten very swollen and red in the area of the injection but after the bovine collagen is gone this completely resolves. Allergic reactions to the bovine collagen are so rare in fact that only a couple of bone fide reactions have been reported in the US and Canada over the last 9 years. The PMMA of Bellafill is non-reactive. I would recommend that you see someone who has extensive experience with this product. There is a list of providers on the Suneva website. I hope that helps. Best regards.
