How long to wear spanx after Tummy Tuck?

I encourage my patients to wear a garment for at least 6 weeks after surgery to help reduce swelling but if your surgeon gave you different instructions, follow them because they know your situation better.

You should be able to stop wearing your Spanx at this point. I don't think your stomach muscles become dependent on the spanks at all. It is just not necessary to wear the garment at this point.

Dear MamaEnglish,Most of us will tell you to wear Spanx for 6 weeks post-op.That said, at 6 weeks I clear all my patients for full exercises, recommend a high protein diet, yoga, massage, bath with Epsom salts etc... since the swelling may take up to 6 months to settle down.now I had a patient wear a ( sexy ) corset, and she had phenomenal results with a narrow waist 6 months later.so go ahead, and enjoy the garment of your choice, exercise, and your new figure,Florence Mussat

Postoperative instructions after a tummy tuck (or any surgery) vary from plastic surgeon to plastic surgeon. In my practice, patients with prolonged swelling are encouraged to wear their support garments until the swelling subsides. Some of those patients have told me they feel uncomfortable at the end of the day without the support. I would be surprised if the stomach muscles became dependent on the garment. Patients in my practice who have used abdominal support garments for longer periods of time have been able to transition off wearing them without any problems. 

Surgeons vary in terms if their aftercare following tummy tuck procedure. Wearing the garment/binder for 4-6 weeks after surgery is almost standard. Beyond that point, the decision to wear it, remains individualized. Best is to consult with your surgeon. However, healing from tummy tuck surgery is a 6 months' process. I have seen patients wearing it that long for comfort.
