An abdominoplasty is a cosmetic procedure, and not covered by health insurance. Some health insurance plans will cover a panniculectomy, with proper documentation, however, this procedure is different from an abdominoplasty. I recommend setting up a consult with a boards certified plastic surgeon to discuss the difference between these procedures.
It's highly unlikely that you could. Abdominoplasty is considered a cosmetic procedure and as such most plans will not cover it. You can check with your particular plan to see if they will offer partial coverage under any circumstances. Best of luck!
A tummy tuck is considered cosmetic and is not covered by insurance. In some instances insurance will cover a panniculectomy. This is a procedure that removes a hanging flap of abdominal tissue due to the tissue causing other medical issues such as rashes or infections. This is not the same thing as a tummy tuck. Tummy tucks address loose abdominal tissue and underlying muscle separation.
Unfortunately for you insurance does not cover a tummy tuck since it is a cosmetic procedure. Some patients have diseased and infected skin at the lower abdomen and it can be covered by insurance as a procedure known as a "panniculectomy".
By definition a tummy tuck or Abdominoplasty is a cosmetic operation and is not covered by any insurance carrier. You might however be able to qualify for a panniculectomy which is covered by insurance. The best bet is to look on your carriers website and see what their criteria are for approval for the panniculectomy and see a plastic surgeon in your area that takes your insurance.
If you had a medical problem related to excess skin and fat in the lower abdomen, such as rashes, infections, or difficulty walking due to the overhang, your insurance might consider a panniculectomy (removal of the excess skin and fat) as medically necessary. You would have to be seen, examined, and have photos taken. This would be submitted to your insurance company for a preauthorization request. If the insurance approved, the panniculectomy portion of the tummy tuck would be covered. This would not cover work in the upper abdomen, and muscle tightening which is done in the full cosmetic abdominoplasty.
Abdominoplasty is not covered by insurance. It is deemed a cosmetic procedure. Insurance pays for medically necessary procedures under strict criteria.
Insurance companies do not cover a tummy tuck. Sometimes with massive weight loss patients, a severely hanging pannus might be covered to be removed.
Unless there is some unusual circumstance, insurance companies generally do not cover tummy tuck surgery. In other words, insurance companies do not consider this operation medically necessary. Sometimes, however insurance companies will cover excision of lower abdominal wall skin/apron; this operation is called a panniculectomy. The panniculectomy operation involves excision of the lower abdominal wall pannus or overhanging skin/adipose tissue. It is not considered an aesthetically driven procedure; it is often performed to help with concerns such as skin breakdown, infections/rashes… Best wishes.
