Answer: Arm lift brachioplasty drains arm liposuction arm lift I perform a significant number of arm lifts weekly. I believe arm liposuction is an extremely important to a successful arm lift or brachioplasty. About 10 years ago, during the arm lift procedure, I was not performing arm liposuction. Presently, I perform arm liposuction on all arm lift or brachioplasty procedures. Arm liposuction does three main things. One, it removes fat. The benefits of this procedure should be obvious. Two, arm liposuction aids in dissection during the arm lift procedure. Liposuction helps to define an important nerve in the upper arm. If this nerve is cut, it can lead to permanent forearm numbness. Liposuction helps to identify this nerve during surgical dissection and prevent nerve damage. Thirdly, I believe arm liposuction leads to a better surgical closure. Arm fat removal reduces tension and leads to a better recovery. I believe arm liposuction reduces the chances of wound breakdown and significant scarring. In the past 14 years, I have never used arm drains. I believe if the arm lift or brachioplasty is done correctly, drains are unnecessary.

Answer: Drains or no drains, lipo or no lipo with arm lift The surgical approach to arm lift surgery, also known as brachioplasty, will depend upon how much laxity there is in your arm. If your arm is thick but with little hanging tissue, then liposuction is a good choice. If your arms have mostly hanging, loose skin, then excision ( arm lift) is best. Sometimes for people with thick arms and loose skin, liposuction and excision are best. I generally do not use drains and I perform this surgery in an outpatient setting
