Why is it so important to remove the capsule with grade 3cc? Can it just be scored? Is it for medical or cosmetic reasons? Isn't there a risk of loosing natural breast tissue?

Answer: Capsule is usually removed with implant removal when there is capsular contracture. Thank you for your photos and question. During breast implant removal most of the capsule is usually removed in order to allow complete healing and prevent fluid collection after surgery (seroma). In the setting of capsular contracture, capsule should be removed to avoid potential continued capsule thickening and further scarring. Usually only the capsule is removed without taking any breast tissue, but there can be a small volume decrease. Hope this helps to answer your question.

Answer: Thickened capsules are not necessarily an indication for capsule removal Capsules are removed at the time of surgery in the cases of calcified capsule, infection or ruptured silicone implants. Thickening is not necessarily an indication for capsule removal. However, taking out the capsule can do 2 things: decrease volume to the breast and injure the blood supply or nerve supply to the remaining breast tissue. The technique I recommend is explantation and lift using The Bellesoma Method. The implants are removed, your breast tissue is reshaped creating upper pole fullness, elevated higher on the chest wall and more medial to increase your cleavage. Vertical scars are avoided, nipple sensation (in 95%) and the ability to breast feed are maintained, if not injured during your previous surgery. Later, fat transfers can be performed if additional volume is desired. Best Wishes,Gary Horndeski, M.D.
