Can you have a Tummy Tuck with liposuction after having a stroke? (Photos)

Question

I was in the wrong place at the wrong time in 1991, I was 19. I was shot in the left side of the brain with a 38 and had a stroke because of this. I have right side weakness. I've been under anesthesia when I was 30 to get my wisdom teeth removed and I was fine. I have a clean medical history, blood pressure, and cholesterol are normal. I had a c-section with my son in 2008. I ride my exercise bike 3 times a week and I eat healthy food. I don't drink or smoke. I am at my ideal weight, 5'2 175

You would need a consultation with a local board certified plastic surgeon to discuss your goals and objectives and review the risks and benefits of surgery. However, if the issues that caused the stroke are no longer causing ongoing problems and you are overall healthy, then prior events such as this are not  something that would rule out cosmetic surgery for you. Hope this helps!

Like all good Doctors, Plastic Surgeons will take your history and examination and review any investigations and order new ones to assess your current health. Having a stroke does not preclude you from surgery but raised some health issues that need to be addressed at ensure optimal conditoning during and after surgery.

as long as your health is good and from what you describe, it is.  You should be able to maintain your weight if you wish to have the best results possible.  Make sure your expectations are known to your surgeon and let your surgeon tell you if its possible or not.

I doubt there would be any issue. I actually did a tummy tuck last week on a patient who had a stroke. It depends on a number of factors which would all be answered in your pre-op evaluation. It should not go without saying that 5'2" 175# is not anywhere near "ideal body weight" but may be a "comfortable" weight for you. Your surgical/anesthesia risks are a bit higher because of your increased BMI but should not preclude surgery.

I am sorry to hear about your past history. Based on your information here, it is most likely that you will be able to proceed with tummy tuck surgery.  In my practice, I would ask that you obtain "medical clearance" from the doctors know you best ( family practitioner, internist, and/or neurologist). Your next step would be careful selection of plastic surgeon, careful communication of your goals, and preparation for an operation associated with an extensive recovery. You may find the attached link helpful to you as you learn more. With medical clearance it sounds as though you would be a good candidate for tummy tuck and liposuction with the exception of your current weight.
