My nose has become more and more deformed and crooked with age. I have had a couple of traumatic injuries in the past five years or so. I'm also a recovering addict who has used methamphetamines in the past. I'm reluctant to be so blatant about that but I want my nose corrected and want to know what all that will entale. I have BC/BS medicaid and no way to pay for a rhinoplasty out of pocket. Is it possible that insurance will cover any of what's needed to correct this?
Answer: Functional Rhinoplasty Hello,Thank you for your question. Medical insurance will only cover a functional rhinoplasty that fixes a health issue. Breathing issues that can be solved by a septorhinoplasty is an example of a type of surgery that can be covered. Unfortunately, what you want is a cosmetic rhinoplasty and will have to be paid out of pocket.Best of luck,Deepak Dugar, MDScarless Rhinoplasty ExpertBeverly Hills, CA 90210

Answer: Rhinoplasty Hello! Issues that impair breathing such as septal deviation are usually covered by insurance (often requiring pre authorization). Issues that are cosmetic- things that change the appearance of the nose- are NOT covered by insurance unless they are the result of direct trauma (if you are in a car accident and your nose is broken, insurance will usually cover that). It is very unlikely that a government sponsored insurance will cover this but your best bet would be to call them and ask directly. Good luck.

Answer: Insurance for rhinoplasty Insurance typically will cover functional nasal issues. It will not, and should not, be used to cover anything cosmetic. Medicaid is not intended to assist with cosmetic surgery. This is essentially having cosmetic surgery funded by taxpayers.

Answer: Insurance coverage Typically insurance will cover a portion of the overall cost associated with correction of a crooked nose. You should pursue a pre-authorization after consulting with your rhinoplasty surgeon. You must also check what insurances your surgeon accepts. Good luck!

Answer: Is there any way insurance will pay to correct my crooked nose? Medical insurance will only pay for functional issues such as breathing problem on the internal component of the nose. Medical necessity must be documented and preauthorization must be accomplished prior to any functional surgery. Straightening the nose consider cosmetic, and must be paid for by the patient. Both functional and cosmetic nasal surgery can be performed simultaneously, but expect to pay for the cosmetic component yourself, and co-pays with deductibles will be applied to the insurance component.
