Thank you very much for this interesting question. It is very important that the patient always go to the postoperative assessments until it is finally released from his plastic surgeon. In my practice generally for BA, i use the following appointments (Appt) pattern:1st Appt: 72 hs. Post-op 2nd & 3rd Appt: 2nd week Post-op 4th & 5th Appt: 3rd week Post-op(This is a usual pattern of work, but more often cite patient if necessary). Finally, I recommend you a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, specialized in Body Contour, who knows individualize each patient to give you the better advice.Respectfully,Dr. Emmanuel Mallol Cotes.-
Thank you for this excellent question. The short answer is that each surgeon has his or her own policy as to how many post op appointments one has after a breast augmentation. If you were my patient, and I admit I am very obsessive, I would see you on the day after surgery to remove the drain, 3 days after surgery to remove the first row of stitches from your armpit, 6 days after surgery to remove the second row of stitches, then every 2 weeks for one month, every month for 3 months, and every quarter for a year.I admit this is a bit onerous, but it allows me to pick up potential problems in their early stages before things get too far out of hand. As you can see, breast augmentation in my opinion, as most cosmetic plastic surgeries, is a process and not an event. I am sure the surgeon that you picked in Florida is an outstanding Board Certified plastic surgeon with a great reputation, and if everything goes okay, then traveling from Canada to Florida is not a problem. Unfortunately, things don't always go okay, that is why I am a firm believer in finding a well trained Board Certified plastic surgeon that you can trust in your neighborhood rather than going a long distance. My theory holds true for primary surgeries. Obviously, secondary and tertiary cosmetic procedures require surgeons who specialize in these more difficult procedures, and under these circumstances, traveling a distance may be appropriate.
You should check with your surgeon specifically for this answer, as everyone has different preferences on how they like to follow their patients after surgery. In my practice, assuming no complications or concerns, I usually see my patients the day after surgery, again 1-2 weeks after that and then usually at 6 weeks and again at 3-6 months. Best of luck with your surgery!
Hi toxicpixie,Post-operative appointments differ betweensurgeons. At our clinic, we visit patients in hospital the next day following surgery, then our post-op appointments are at 1 week, 8 weeks, 6 months and thenannually or when required. I would suggest you contact your plastic surgeonsrooms and check when you’d be required to be there for appointments. I wouldadvise you at least stay in the area for 2 weeks in case of any unlikelycomplications post-surgery.All the best,Craig
Follow up appointments varies from doctor to doctor. I usually see my patients on first day after surgery, at one week, at one month, at 3 months, 6 months, and at one year. If need be, I see patients more often if I am concerned about healing. You might be able to send photos or use Skype with your surgeon in Canada. I would strongly suggest keeping your 1 month appointment, or at least wait to leave after 2 weeks.
It is always wise to have surgery where you are able to follow up with your surgeon. Safety comes before convenience. However breast augmentation can be done one day. Stitches removed in 7-10 days. If all is well nothing further may be needed. Just follow your instructions and stay in touch.
As a 'out of towner' in my private practice I prefer with augmentation patients they stay for at least 2 weeks after surgery if not longer. I see them within the first 48 to 72 hrs, or sooner if needed. Than second visit at 1 week post op. Final visit before possible leaving town at 14 days/2 weeks...
HiToxicpixie, thank you for your questionconcerning post op appointments following a breast augmentation. It is hard to give you an exact answer aseach surgeon will have their own requirements. Some surgeons may have you follow up the day after surgery and then inanother couple of weeks as well as at 3 and 6 months. For the most accurate answer, I recommendasking your surgeon. Very best toyou. –Dr. Brian Coan
Thank you for your question. Surgeons differ in their follow-up schedules after breast augmentation surgery. My routine is a visit at 6 days, one month, three months and one year after surgery; then once every year or two. Obviously, frequent visits can be problematic for someone who lives a long way away from their surgeon. You may be able to find someone locally who is willing to see you for a nominal charge for some of those follow-up visits.
Thank you for the question.indeed a interesting question, most doctors prefer to keep a close eye in the firths week.in my team we normally program 2 or 3 visits in the week after the surgery. the second week 1 or 2 visits, the third weeks 1 visits should be enough. that been said, this goes case by case and the patient its as responsible of the follow up as the physician.
Thanks for your question. Almost everyone has some degree of breast asymmetry. Your weight gain may be making this asymmetry more obvious which is why you have been noticing the difference. It is impossible to assess what surgical options would be best for you without an in-person consultation....
Thank you very much for your question. There is no evidence that nutritional supplements cause or contribute to capsular contracture formation. At this time the exact mechanism is incompletely understood, but the most commonly accepted theory is that low grade inflammation secondary...
Thank You for your question. The anesthesia normally will remain in your system for 24 hours following your procedure. You also may be taking narcotics. Therefore I would advise my patients not to drive while under these conditions. Typically in my practice I allow my...
