Sudden pain on the incision after 8 weeks post-op breast augmentation.

Question

I have a little pain on the incision and this is my 8 weeks. This happens all the sudden. My scar is healing very good. There is no sign of redness or anything sign of infection. I remember my doctor said to take it easy on my arms if this happened. The cause is because I use my arms too hard on lifting. Is there any other problem that could cause this? I'm current out of country right now and won't be back until September 2nd

The sudden pain that you describe is common and temporary after breast augmentation.  I believe it is from stretching the sensory nerves in the breast, and typically gets better by itself.  See you PS to be sure.

Thank you for your question.  Pain at the incision site is common and can occur when as you stated "you are using your arms too hard and lifting".  My advice is to not lift anything greater than 15 pounds for one month following breast augmentation.  Should you have increased pain, redness or swelling you should be seen by a physician.  Best of luck.

Every patient heals differently and every surgeon performs his breast augmentation using different surgical techniques that lead to different recovery periods. Depending on the surgical techniques your surgeon used it is likely normal that you are still experiencing sore and tender breasts. We recommend not doing any heavy lifting up to 6 weeks after your surgery. As long as the your level of discomfort is improving and not getting worse, you should be ok. You may also be experiencing something called Mondor's thromophlebitis if there is a visible painful cord under the scar when you lift your arm.  However, I would recommend calling your surgeon just to make sure everything is in fact healing properly.

Thank you for sharing your question.  Because this is an acute change in your recovery since surgery I would see your doctor for an in-person examination when you return to the US.  As you have not had any change in the appearance of your breasts this is likely due to muscle or nerve irritation and should improve spontaneously with rest.  Hope this helps.

Thank you for your question.  At this point it most likely is nerve pain .  Patient's describe it as a zapping, pins and needles or hot poker sensation.  If it persists , follow up with your Plastic Surgeon.

You could be having nerve pain.  Lifting and doing too much with your arms can cause pain.  Contact your surgeon for an exam once you return home.  Best wishes!
