What can I do about this spitting suture? (Photo)

Question

Hello! I noticed this suture come to the surface here within the last day or two. I am one month postop and just saw my surgeon A week ago. He said my incisions were healing perfectly and now this little guy decided to pop up! Any tips on what I can do to keep this under control until I can get in with my doc? I have been washing it with dial soap, keeping it dry and applying antibiotic ointment on it to keep it clean. Any other advice would be great, thanks!

It does appear that you have an exposed suture from the picture.  Keep it clean as you are doing and have your PS remove it.

Thank you for your question and photograph.  My advice is to keep the area clean and dry and follow-up with your plastic surgeon as planned.  A spitting stitch is common and will likely heal very well on it's own.  Best of luck.

The suture should be removed by your surgeon or their nurse. Call their office so that you can be seen and get the spitting suture removed.

The deep stitch needs to be removed. I would contact your Surgeon and let them know what is going on so they can see you sooner to remove the stitch.

I would recommend that you discuss this question with your surgeon as every surgeon has their own respective post op protocol for his/her patients.  Your surgeon is your best resource as he/she is most familiar with your medical history and how you are healing at this time.
  
The best way to assess and give true advice would be an in-person exam.

Continue doing what you are doing by keeping the area clean and dry until you can see your surgeon.  Be sure to call them.  These issues heal quickly once addressed so your surgeon may want to see you soon for a short visit.
