Is caffeine safe post-op?

Question

I am 10 days post-op of a breast augmentation, and I am dying for a cup of coffee! I am not a coffee drinker, but a tea drinker instead. My doctor told me no tea 2 weeks prior and post op because of the caffeine, but I'm wondering about coffee. Any suggestions?

After 10 days there should be no reasons that you cannot have a cup of coffee.  Discuss the specific reasons with your surgeon.

I see no reason to avoid caffeine 10 days after your breast augmentation. I would explain to your plastic surgeon that you would really enjoy it. I'm sure he or she would be more than happy to let you proceed. Enjoy!

I personally see no reason to avoid caffeine in any routine cosmetic procedure except for very rare exceptions. I am sure your surgeon has a reason for giving you this advice so I would suggest asking them to make sure you are safe. Best of luck!

Never heard of this pre and post op restriction for a breast augmentation! I advise my patients to eat and drink whatever they feel like having. You may want to ask your operating surgeon why he wants you to avoid caffeine. Hope that will shed some light! Good luck!

I love coffee and is definitely fine to consume weeks postop. In fact, I allow my own patients to consume any non-alcoholic beverages, then can have wine and beer after 48 hours.

I am not aware of any peer-reviewed studies that demonstrate an increased risk associated with caffeine consumption and breast augmentation.  Certain types of herbal compounds can increase the risks of bleeding and perhaps that is what your doctor is concerned about since many teas are herbal.  Still, it is always a good idea to ask your plastic surgeon first before proceeding.  Give them a call.
