I had fat grafting under eye 9 months ago . My left eye is fine but my right eye stays puffy underneath. What should I do ?
Answer: Facial fat transfer nine months after procedure At nine months you are completely healed and have had final results from your procedure for sometime. Without seeing before and after pictures we can’t begin to make an assessment on the outcome of a procedure. Perhaps what you refer to as puffiness is in fact grafted fat. Facial fat grafting is inherently unpredictable, imprecise add unforgiving in comparison to working with fillers. For this reason I generally recommend patients stay with fillers for facial augmentation work. Delivering consistent quality liposuction and the fat transfer result is a difficult thing to do. Patient should be highly selective before considering this procedure and need to except the inherent nature of working with grafted fat. The survival of a graph that can be unpredictable and highly based on the presence of host tissue. The sickness oh soft tissue layers in the face especially around the orbits changes rapidly over short distances and this can cause fat to survive in ways that are slightly different than what was hoped for. It is simply a difficult procedure to do well consistently. For that reason I recommend patients always be more selective regarding choosing a provider and they think necessary. I generally recommend patients have at least five in person consultations before choosing a provider. it’s generally better to graft in the more conservative manner adding fat at a later procedure if needed. Removing previously grafted fat to the face can be difficult and sometimes not possible. At nine months waiting further is unlikely to change your outcome. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
