Please see photos, its been 2 months since I have had alar base reduction and on one side in between my nostril and nasolabial fold when I smile there is a lump that appears, is this scar issue or muscle or something else? and what can be done to get rid of it?? it really looks horrible in person

Answer: Early scarring in present Alar base reduction always produces an external skin scar. The appearance of the scar will change over time. Often it will become thickened, red, and itchy between 6-12 weeks before fading into pale line well camouflaged in the shadow of the alar groove. Your photos do not demonstrate anything of concern at 2 months following surgery. Nevertheless, I suggest you see your surgeon to express your concerns.

Answer: Alar base scars This area heals differently in individuals. You appear to have some hypertrophic scarring. Treatment with very low dose steroid, 5 fluouracil or ideally a combination of the two may be beneficial. Any surgeon who does rhinoplasty will be aware of these modalities
