After Smart Lipo, my white blood cell count is high

Question

I recieved smartlipo on my abd, flanks arms on Jan 8. I have another surgery regarding a completely different issue. Analfistula on Jan 30. This past weekend I was feeling a little sick with a cold also have a coldsore. Which I got on Sat Jan 20.presurg testing on the 24th and my wbc count was high 15.40. They are not giving me clearance for my surgery on the 30th. Could the wbc be high cause I was sick.. Etc or lipo.Will it b better on Monday if I get another test done.. Any suggestions?

The list of differential diagnoses for an elevated white cell count is long. Old dictum : common problems are common in Medicine. An infection related to the fistula or elevated white cell count due to your viral syndrome are both high on the list of possibilities. Smartlipo is not the cause for the white cell elevation. I would recommend a return visit to our primary care doctor to evaluate further. Hoping this finds you well.

There's no way to determine the source of an eleveted WBC count from a single measurement. However, non-emergency surgeries are routinely rescheduled if you're sick with a cold or the flu for various reasons including increased airway secretions. There's also no way to tell if your cold and your WBCs will be normal specifically on Monday. Just reschedule for 2 weeks to be sure.

Your elevated WBC count is a general measurement. The differential count is important in determining a cause, but I would not look to your Lipo procedure as the likely culprit. The fistula is more likely to be responsible, or some other mild occult infection. Just get it resolved before any surgery.

Hi! I'm sorry to hear you weren't feel well. Smart Lipo will not affect your WBC. However an illness could. I would contact your family doctor and let them know what's going on. Also make sure your surgeon is aware. Best of luck to you!
