How crucial is massage right after having Smart Lipo?

What you are describing sounds like you are experiencing a little more swelling and bruising than the average smartlipo patient.  I'm confused how you are getting bruising in your thighs after your abdomen and flanks were treated.  Were all of the incisions sutured closed?  If so, it will take longer for all of that fluid (swelling) to go away.  I don't think any kind of massage is critical this early after the procedure, but once most of the fluid has drained out massage can help prevent some of the unevenness and lumpy appearance some people get after liposuction.  I would wait a few days, but follow your surgeons recommendations.  If you are supposed to wear a compression garment (I hope so) then make sure you really wear it, they do have a big impact on the end result of your procedure.

when you are swollen and tender there is NO point in making yourself miserable by massaging the tender area. After the tenderness settles down with is usually in 1-2 weeks, i think it is helpful to massage the area, especially if there are some firm areas, which is not uncommon.remember it takes 6 months to get the full benefit from Smartlipo so be patient.david berman md
