I have a consulation next week for a breast augmentation, and I've been looking at some before and after pictures of breast augmentations, and was curious if there was a way to avoid the aeroelas size increase. I think mine may get bigger, and that's not what I want.
Answer: Areola Size After Implants?
Will your areola enlarge with breast implants? The best analogy to help answer your question is as follows: draw a circle on a balloon and then blow the balloon up. The circle will always enlarge. So the answer is, yes.
The larger the implant: the more your areolar will increase.
If your areola are too large, there are procedures that can reduce the areola size. However, it will require an incision and result in a scar around the areola, which may be either quite visible or impreceptable, according to how it is sutured and how you genetically heal scars.
Like most things, plastic surgery is a trade off. You will get larger breasts, but the areolar will enlarge. You have to decide if the trade off is a good one. Most people think it is.
Good luck, and thank you for your interesting question.

Answer: Limiting Areola Enlargement after Breast Augmentation
Areola enlargement is usually something that happens with breast augmentation. Sometimes the change in size in not extremely noticeable. However, limiting the size would require a suture to prevent the areola from enlarging, and most plastic surgeons would do that through a circumareolar incision.

Answer: Breast Augmentation and Areola Size
To see how much your areola might stretch just stand in front of a mirror and stretch your areola out with your fingers. If it stretches with your fingers it is most likely it will stretch with the implants in place.

Answer: How to prevent areolae widening after a breast augmentation
After a breast augmentation, some women may experience widening of the areolae. This can be prevented by doing a couple of things. First, the size of the implants can affect the widening. The larger the implants, the larger the areolae can stretch. Therefore, if you're very concerned about the eventual size of your areolae I would recommend a more conservative breast implant size. Also, placing the implants "underneath the muscles" of the chest will help out as well. This adds an extra layer of protection between the implant and the areola. I've performed many breast augmentations with minimal, if any, increase in areola size. Visit the web page below for some examples. Thank you for your question!
