Is it normal to have this much scar tissue 1 year after rhinoplasty? (photo)

Without an internal nasal exam it is difficult to give an answer but by 1 year after a primary rhinoplasty, scar is typically defined at that time. If cartilage grafts were used sometimes that is also palpable and can be normal. That would not affect a revision rhinoplasty however, thinning skin associated with ongoing scar can make further surgery difficult and more surgery typically leads to thinner skin with subsequent surgeries making cartilage grafts more visible as well as contour differences.

It's hard to determine what has to be done from those photos. The scar tissue in the photos does not appear significant and would not cause a problem if a revision rhinoplasty is needed. Be sure to see a couple of expert rhinoplasty surgeons to determine exactly what has to be done on your revision.

Hello and thank you for your question. It would be helpful to see additional views of your entire nose. Generally speaking, scar tissue is very normal after rhinoplasty, and this can be dealt with during a revision performed by an expert surgeon. I recommend that you seek consultation with a qualified board-certified rhinoplasty surgeon who can evaluate you in person.

this is approximately teh location of one of the incisions to get access to the nose so it is possible you just have scarring along the incision. I would consider having a surgeon inject a medication there to see if you can calm down the scar tissue

What you are seeing in the inside of your nose is relatively unimportant, and that would not preclude revision rhinoplasty surgery. If your concern is that you have a pinched nasal tip appearance and an overly narrowed tip appearance, depending on your examination, microdroplet Silikon-1000 nasal injections may be considered for a permanent non-surgical nose job. What you may be seeing is a reflection of the underlying cartilage, which is not uncommon, although your photos aren’t entirely clear. This area typically doesn’t scar poorly, and what you’re noticing is likely a normal part of the healing process.
Scarring is essentially your body doing its job—healing. Scarring is just the body healing the wound wonderfully. The goal is to suppress the healing, a wound is not always a bad thing.
Optimal healing of a wound is a shared effort between the surgeon and the patient. The surgeon must perform precise incisions and suturing, while the patient plays an equally important role in post-operative care and healing. Despite everyone doing everything right, genetics and individual healing responses can still influence the final outcome.
Even with the best care, scarring is inevitable in surgery. What matters most is how well the scar is planned and hidden. For instance, even a millimeter’s difference in incision placement can impact healing. Cutting over cartilage will turn to scar tissue, cutting 1mm below the cartilage however wouldn’t cause pressure on the skin and would heal better. All of these factors come together to shape the final result.
