Hello and thank you for the question. Prolonged swelling after liposuction is a rule, not an exception. Final results can take several weeks to months. Wearing compression garment and massage help with the swelling. Your surgeon is your best resource. Best,Pejman Aflaki, M.D.Johns Hopkins-trained plastic surgeon
For over 20 years, I've seen garment used for compression without any major issues after liposuction, and don't see any reason in my opinion at this stage of the game without real scientific evidence to complicate things with more "stuff to do" for my patients such as taping. Be sure to discuss your goals and concerns with your board certified plastic surgeon and consider the pros and the cons. Be certain your surgeon is properly certified. I've attached a link where you can start your search.
Gumbeaux. The compression garment and mild self massage should be all you need for recovery after liposuction. I am not a big fan of deep tissue massage and other aggressive massage modalities after liposuction because of pain and questionable value. Follow the recommendations of your board-certified plastic surgeon, best of luck.
As you swell after surgery, the kinesio tape may provide a a focal point for shearing forces which could cause your skin to blister. There are no shortcuts to healing!
I think you nailed it when you said in your question it is rare to find a surgeon familiar with liposuction of the area. If it worked well we would all be doing it. No one tries it more than once because it results in a very unhappy patient. I hope you are not going to be one of those unhappy...
In 10 years i havent had any serious complications or death from liposuction. I suggest you see an excellent surgeon. If you are not prepared mentally do not go forward with surgery till you are. Best, Dr. Emer.
I don’t think the risk/benefit is in your favor but I would talk to your hematologist as they are probably in the best position to analyze your true risk and can give you the best advice. For me, I would not operate on a patient in your situation unfortunately.
