Serious anxiety a week before liposuction surgery. Is this normal? Will I die?

Liposuction pretty much from the waist down. Lots of areas. I’m slim and fit but want contouring. The amount of anxiety I am having about the procedure and recovery is ridiculous. Is this normal?

In 10 years i havent had any serious complications or death from liposuction. I suggest you see an excellent surgeon.  If you are not prepared mentally do not go forward with surgery till you are.  Best, Dr. Emer.

Thanks for the question, good timing as the emotional aspect of surgery seems to keep coming up. I really believe their is a roller coaster of emotions before and after surgery. What your feeling is totally normal, I spend time discussing these feelings with patients. Anxiety and nervousness are normal, people feel guilty that they are focusing on themselves and taking away time and resources from their loved ones. Remember, your family wants you to be happy and taking time for yourself is a normal mature phenomenon. Post op we have our patients spend time with my lymphatic massage therapist who also does anxiety reduction with aromatherapy and meditation

It’s normal be anxious before any type of surgery, despite the fact that countless of people have already undergone liposuction and managed to survive and get great results.
To help ease your anxiety, discuss your surgery with your reputable and board-certified plastic surgeon, including your fears. It can help you manage your expectations as well. You may also try getting alternative therapies for anxiety, such as yoga, acupuncture, meditation, and massage.
