As noted by others, most people who get heart palpitations from lidocaine are having them as a result of the epinephrine that is commonly added to the lidocaine. So if this is the cause, having Voluma injected will be fine as it contains lidocaine, and there is no epinephrine in the syringe. We often use topical anesthetics and many of these will have epinephrine in them, so caution the team you are seeing to use only topical creams that does not contain epinephrine in them. If there is a true lidocaine allergy, which can be the case with some, Voluma will not be for you and we will need to inject you with one of the non-lidocaine containing fillers. So this is why a history and physical is so important for each and every person wanting a cosmetic procedure – we need to know these types of things and we need to work with you to determine what sometimes is true allergy versus a sensitivity to one of the ingredients in the product, epinephrine in this case. Find a board-certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon and get the proper treatment after the proper consultation.
