Am I a candidate for a lip lift? How long am I going to have a stiff unnatural upper lip after procedure? (Photo)

Question

I would like to know if I am a good candidate for a lip lift. I am from Germany and I couldn't find any experienced doctor here so I am willing to travel for this procedure. My absolutely biggest fear is that the movement of my lip will appear unnaturally or stiff and bad scarring of course. And is it necessary to cut and pull up the muscle as well for less scarring as I saw in some reviews? I hope not :) Thanks in advance.

The ideal candidate for the Elelyft, or upper lip lift, is someone with a philtral length of 13mm or longer, no upper dental show, and/or a thin upper lip. The nasal base to mouth width ratio needs to be taken into consideration to avoid leaving the lip corners down. You do appear to be a lip lift candidate. I remove skin only, not muscle. The ultimate movement of the lip will not be effected. Poor scarring is rare in experienced hands. I discuss the recovery process in detail during the consultation. Many of my patients travel from other countries for this procedure. Consult with an experienced lip surgeon for a complete range of options that are appropriate for your situation.

Excess tension on the sub nasal scar has 3 consequences:distortion- the tension can widen the nostrils, pull down the columella, or cause relapse.Hypertrophic scarring- the body reacts to the excess tension by laying excess collagen on the wind to help it holdDisplaced or widened scar- the tension can cause the scar to widen, or even descend a millimeter or twoAll of these problems can be addressed with proper fixation techniques. You have good lateral upper lip vermilion fullness and a curvilinear shape to your basal base which are two favorable factors to consider for a subnasal lip lift. I would not advise cutting/suturing the muscle as this can cause stiffness and an unnatural upper lip movement when smiling. All lip lifts will have about a 20% relapse rate by 6 months after surgery so that should be considered in the original amount of subnasal skin removed. This is a safer strategy that potentially interfering with muscle movement.
