Man Boobs or Gynaecomastia can have a variety of causes like certain medication, hormonal imbalance, adiposity, drugs, medical conditions of the liver or thyroid, or simply a remainder from puberty.An operation is the only true method to get rid of true gynaecomastia, and we usually perform a 1 hour op combining Liposuction with excision of the tough breast tissue  sometimes also reducing excess skin if necessary.

This gentleman in his late 30s presented with gynecomastia. It is abnormal growth of breast tissue in men and is much more common than most people think. He had an ultrasound assisted liposuction and excision of the gynecomastia through a lateral liposuction port site. No incisions were made around the nipple or areola. 	This 12 year old boy was teased repeatedly by other children, and would never remove his shirt in front of others. Following gynecomastia surgery, his chest is flatter and he is no longer embarrassed to remove his shirt.

Gynecomastia - In this case, it's unilateral, just on the right.  More often it's two sided. Besides removing the breast tissue, we needed to relocate and reduce the size of the nipple/areola complex.

Patient is 5'7 and 160 pounds.  Dr. Eric Schaffer performed gynecomastia surgery ( male breast reduction) by liposuction.

Gynecomastia Surgery


	Gynecomastia or male breast reduction corrects the over-developed or enlarged breasts of men. Breast Reduction is done under general anesthesia. Incisions are made around the pigmented area (the nipple areolar complex) and extend vertically below the nipple and in the fold under the breast. The nipple areolar complex is moved upward to the desired location, while excess breast tissue, skin, and fat are removed.


Male Breast Reduction / Gynecomastia

This man in his late 20s wished to correct his gynecomastia and met with Dr. Howell to discuss his options. This is a young gentleman who had gynecomastia (male enlargement of breasts). We performed liposuction and direct excision of his gland by making a small incision around his areola. Often liposuction alone can achieve the intended result.  But sometimes excision of breast tissue, or skin or both is required to ensure a smooth, masculine result.
