I am 44 years old and have struggled with cystic acne for about 5 years. I only get one or 2 every other month, but I scar very easily. My dermatologist has tried topicals, antibiotics and years of Spironolactone. She feels Accutane is the best option. She says that most patients experience 2 weeks of purging. I have seen so many reviews online where people purge for months. I have a history of depression and Im concerned about months of breakouts. What do your patients typically experience?
Im a 43 year old woman who gets 3-4 cysts a year since I started Spironolactone 4 years ago. Spiro seems to be failing now and my dermatologist feels we have exhausted every type of topical and antibiotic options. She is encouraging Accutane. I am terrified of the purge process, but she feels my purge will only last about three weeks. All of my cysts have left pitted scars even though I leave them completely alone. Im afraid of scarring. Also, I get permanent atrophy from steroids. Suggestion?
Hello, Im a 40 y/o Latina with normally extremely oily, break-out prone skin for 20+years. Ive been on Accutane for 5 months now its dramatically improved my skin. My pores are diminished and my oiliness is extremely well-controlled. If my skin stayed just like this overall, Id be very happy. However, Ive heard people say, the pores and oiliness will absolutely return once I go complete off the med. Is this true? The thought of that is so depressing.
I have high cholesterol, (6.5-7.5) it's genetic, I am active, healthy weight, aged 40 - not currently on statins. Is it true that Accutane will likely increase my cholesterol further and that approx 80% of candidates return to their normal levels post treatment, so not the case for all. Does this rule out this treatment option for me? Research Paper: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5958563/

I have been on Isotretinoin for about 3 months. I was taking 60 mg but my joint pain was so bad I could hardly walk. I went down to 30 mg but now I have lower back pain and muscle spasms. This is my 3rd medication to clear my skin (i'm 42) but i'm not sure I can keep taking this. Is all this normal?
I have moderate scarring acne. I've had this since I was 14. I'm 42. I have other skin issues as well. Ingrown hairs, idiopathic itching. It's very depressing. I've never dated AR felt confident. I started the process of going on Isotrentinoin, but due to being a traveling histotechnician, I missed the initial 30 day appointment. It's been 2 months since my first visit. I am on birth control. I'm fed up with my skin. Thanks
Hi, I am a 36 male and diagnosed acne rosacea since 4 years ago. My derm is going to put me on a 10mg/day of accutane for about 1-2 months, then eventually get it up to 20-30mg/day for the whole course, which is 5-6 months. Would this still be too strong Rosacea sufferer? My condition is more on the pustules then redness and I weight about 140lbs. I heard that some people take about 10mg of accutane 2-3 times a week for a prolong period. Is it better? For how long? Please help, thanks!!
