What are the risks of the actual surgery? How common are they? Is buccal fat removal an overall risky procedure? What are the long term effects (especially for an Asian male with a high fat face) of the removal? I'm 18 now, but how will a buccal fat removal affect me when I am, say, 30-40 years old? Will I look much older than I am?

Patients interested in buccal fat removal and jaw surgery should make a consultation with a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon in their geographic area that is specialized in plastic surgery procedures of the face
Buccal fat extends to the jawline. Losing weight rarely affects it. Removal of the buccal fat can give you a tighter jawline and definition of the cheek bones. You may still benefit from augmentation of the cheeks with fat, implants orfillers if you cheek bones are flat.
The "right amount" of buccal fat removal depends on the patient's anatomy. Patens with very chubby face may require excision of the entire buccal fat. Patients with mild chubbiness may require suboptimal excision.
