Hello. About a year ago I did a beard transplant. The doctor told me it’s very easy and scarless procedure which is a lie. Now I’m left with terrible hyper-pigmentation, scars and butchered scalp. What can I do about hyper-pigmentation? I tried Fraxel, cosmelan but nothing seems to work. I would appreciate any help. Thank you.

Thank you for your question. I suggest that you move forward and consult with a board certified facial plastic surgeon. You may be able to improve the hyperpigmentation through laser technology.

There is a good chance this may fade over time.  There are bleaching alternatives, too. I'd follow up with your doctor to see if he or she has any suggestions. Or, see a dermatologist who has a large arsenal of skin treatments.  This can get better!

It is best to ask your surgeon about post operative care as each doctor has their unique regimen.  You may also consider seeing a dermatologist for the skin issue.

I see this commonly after beard transplants at novice clinics. Generally a skin lightening cream will help with the pigmentation but from experience correcting numerous similar patients your best bet is to either remove the hair through laser hair removal or extract them via FUE surgically.

well it's very rare to get hyperpigmentation after hair transplants and keep in mind there is no su h thing as scar less in hair transplant...
Try picosure laser....it's new technology to get rid of pigmentation...And also use 4% hydroquinone cream twice a day for few months...
Last option is recycling of grafts with FUE....

To avoid this, I always trim off the skin of the grafts prior to the placing the grafts into the recipient area, but some very small skin edge may still remain despite this.  There are creams that dermatologist use to treat melasma that might address this problem or these could be removed with FUE along with the hair associated with it, undoing the beard transplant
