If you get liposuction of the inner thighs will you need a compression garment for my thigh areas?

 There is no known benefit of compressive garments after liposuction although most plastic surgeons asked the patient's to use them for about six weeks. The inner thighs or sometimes hard to fit for the proper type of compression so better not to wear a garment all than one that generates improper pressure.

A garment is a good idea after liposuction of the inner thighs.  It will help with the swelling and make you feel more comfortable.

I recommend wearing a compression garment for 6-8 weeks after any type of liposuction. One is provided to the patient at the time of surgery and then 2 weeks after surgery, once the swelling is going down,  I have them switch to a Spanx. You should have good, even pressure for several weeks after this procedure.  You have to be careful it is not digging in or leaving indentations anywhere.  It is always best to consult with a board certified plastic surgeon and follow their after care instructions.  

Compression is mandatory after liposuction procedures, especially if you want the best results.  They help the skin redrape to the new shape and decrease the swelling after the procedure.  I suggest finding a physician who is an expert at liposuction and do not compromise quality for distance or price.  Best, Dr. Emer.

Yes, compression is key after liposuction because you want the skin to retract back. Typically, most surgeons will use a garment that goes down to the knees for a period of 3-6 weeks. I have found most patients continue to use it well past 6 weeks because they like how it feels and it helps control the swelling. Ask your operating surgeon what his or her post op protocol entails. In general, I recommend using compression garments for all liposuction. To my knowledge, there is no way for a pressure garment to put pressure only on the inner thighs, so all the thigh areas will have some pressure on them.Best of luck,Mats Hagstrom, M.D.
