Good question. Fillers do not make you worse off after you stop them. You will simply go back to the way you were had you never used them. The same concept applies to all the areas treated with fillers. Also the same goes for Botox and similar products. Depending on the type you filler used, they typically last from 6-12 months. Good luck!
Fillers are used to expand the lips, to restore volume to them. By restoring volume, the lips expand and thus the lips become softer. There is no evidence that confirms that wrinkles appear or increase as an effect of fillers. However, practically speaking fillers should cause the opposite effect.
While it is not unreasonable to think this is a possibility, once the filler has dissolved (typically after 4-6 months in the lips) your lips will return to their normal pre-injection size and shape. Even though the filler does expand your lips, it is using such a small amount of product to do so that it would not have any permanent effect on your lips.
Since fillers are broken down gradually as they are metabolized by the body, you can expect your lips to return to their pre-injection appearance once the product is gone. You should not notice any extra wrinkles or loss of elasticity. Do keep in mind that your body continues to age over this time, so if you used fillers for several years your face would continue a normal aging process during this time.
Thank you for your question. It's important to remember that when we talk about syringes of filler, we're actually discussing very small volumes of product. Most of the commonly used lip fillers (Juvederm, Restylane, Restylane Silk) are packaged in 1cc syringes - to put this in perspective, it would take 15 syringes to equal 1 tablespoon of product. The skin in our lips has very high elasticity, and the stretching of the skin from a regular dose of lip fillers should have no permanent impact or create any laxity once the filler has been metabolized by your body. I would recommend seeing an experienced cosmetic dermatologist or plastic surgeon to discuss your concerns and to determine the best treatment plan for you. Best of luck!
Thank you for your excellent question. After injection with a hyaluronic acid based dermal filler such as Juvederm, your body will slowly metabolize the product. Once the product is completely gone or if you decide to stop future treatments, you will return to your preprocedure appearance with no resulting wrinkles or reduction in skin elasticity. Beautiful and natural results can be achieved. Please be sure to see an expert injector for an in-person consultation to fully discuss your goals and expectations in order to determine the best treatment plan. Hope this helps and best wishes!
Fillers if used properly and not excessively should not cause more wrinkling or laxity when stopped.
Hi, I have performed many lip augmentation procedures using dermal fillers or lip implants for over 30 years. Following my beauty principles, the upper lip should be approximately 75 % the size of the lower lip for the lips to appear balanced. The lips can be augmented using a dermal filler or a Permalip implant. It's an "urban myth" that a temporary dermal filler causes tissues to stretch and permanently change their shape. When the dermal filler dissolves, the tissue will go back to its original shape. There would not be additional wrinkles caused by the dermal filler however if an individual had their lips augmented for a decade and then decides to stop, there might be additional wrinkles around the lips and mouth that occurred from natural aging over that decade and not from deflation due to the dermal filler dissolving. Dermal filers and lip implants offer a much more reliable volume for augmentation of the lips than permanent fillers or fat injections which are associated with increased, unwanted, side effects.Hope this helps.
Thank you for sharing your concerns about your recent experience. You are correct in saying that you have a natural asymmetry of the upper lips. While dermal filler is the best way to correct this asymmetry, it appears that your left upper lip is overfilled compared to the other areas of your ...
Thank you for your question. It is not uncommon to experience swelling after lip fillers, however this should resolve in the next 2 weeks. I always advise my patients to ice the treated area to help resolve swelling. You can also gently massage the swollen area to help smooth it out. Please ...
