What are the pros and cons of having breast implants before having children?

Honest opinion on breast implants currently 25 years old and really wanting to do this surgery the only thing I keep debating if it’s worth it doing it now or waiting to have all my kids i currently don’t have kids but want at least 3 in the future. Goals in having kids 1-2 years. Pros and cons please

This is really a personal decision and there is no absolute right or wrong answer.

Having breast augmentation before kids:
*Pros:
-Enjoy the results now
-Corrects pre-existing concerns (e.g.:  asymmetry, tuberous breasts, pre-existing loss of volume)
-Potential confidence benefit during child-bearing years
-Pregnancy may not dramatically alter the result

*Cons:
-Pregnancy might alter the result
-A revision may eventually be desirable
-The potential need to redo your breasts after pregnancy/breast feeding

Having breast augmentation after kids:
*Pros:
-You're treating the breasts you actually have after pregnancy
-Better ability to choose the correct operation
-Can address postpartum volume loss and skin laxity together

*Cons:
-You may wait years for something you want now
-Recovery can be harder with young children
-Timing requires patience after pregnancy/breastfeeding

While this comes down to a very personal decision, more of my patients choose breast implants before having kids than after.

This is a great question!  With only a few exceptions there isn't a right or wrong time to have breast augmentation.  The Pros:  If you choose to have it now you can enjoy your new look earlier.  While recovery is relatively short, patients often will need a few days to a week before returning to regular daily activities which could be more cumbersome with small children.  Many times there are lifting restrictions after surgery which can impact patients who have small children that they carry or lift regularly.  The Cons:  Pregnancy and breastfeeding can impact the way your breasts look which may lead to needing a revision afterwards.  Any breast surgery has the potential to disrupt the ability to breastfeed in the future, though with careful planning the impact can be kept to a minimum.
