2 years after breast reduction, is it possible that sensation loss will improve?

Question

I had a breast reduction almost 2 years ago. I have very little sensation on my nipples and the bottom of my breasts are completely numb. I have noticed some improvement in nipples after one year is this a good sign it will continue to improve further? I beget terrible itching t left breast but due to the numbness I can’t pinpoint where it’s coming from to get relief. Is this a sign of damage or nerve regeneration?

Nipple sensation almost always returns to normal with time. However, there's still a small chance of permanently losing sensation in the nipples after breast reduction surgery. Approximately 35% of the patients who got their breasts reduced using the inverted-T scar technique reported persistent nipple numbness even 2 years after their surgery. Please be patient as the nerves may be still reforming.

Nerve regeneration and healing can continue for several years, so some patients do experience gradual improvements in sensation over time. However, if sensation has not returned by this point, the likelihood of significant improvement diminishes. Thank you for your query. Decreased nipple sensation after breast reduction is not uncommon in the early post operative period and most often it comes back. However beyond this time, that is two years, the possibility of more sensation returning is unlikely. Do discuss your concerns with your Plastic surgeon who may be able to help you. All the best.
