I'm 23 years old, 5'4", and ~180lbs, and in terms of weight I’ve always been a pretty consistent size. I’ve seen different answers to my question throughout my research, and wanted to see what the general consensus was here on RealSelf. I also suspect my breasts are tuberous to some degree, but can’t be sure as I haven't actually seen a doctor for it. Breast augmentation is something I’ve wanted for years and I'm now seriously looking into getting it done, so would my weight be an issue?
Answer: BA candidate Dear micheeelle, generally speaking, you want to reach your goal weight before you consider a surgery, otherwise your results will be suboptimal if you continue to lose weight after the surgery. If you are considering a surgery, I would suggest you to consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination you will get more information and recommendations. Answer: Breast augmentation and body weight There is not an optimal body weight per se. High BMI may increase the risk of complications after surgery. Having a stable weight is important. Significant weight gain or loss often effects breast size and these changes can be positive or negative depending on the person.

Answer: More information needed At 5'4 and 180 lbs, your BMI is 30 which is not a contra-indication for surgery. Unfortunately, you have not provided photographs or told us your bra size. You may be a candidate for breast augmentation but also may be a candidate for a breast lift. More information is needed to give an accurate answer. Best Wishes, Gary Horndeski, M.D.

Answer: Breast augmentation in overweight patient It would be difficult to give you good answer without photos and in person evaluation. In general, patient of any weight and size may have breast augmentation with implants. However, those with larger and droopy breasts may need additional procedure like breast reduction/lift done in the same time before placement of implants. In person consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon, expert in breast surgery, is recommended. Good luck.

Answer: It depends; sometimes BMI is an issue I recommend an in person consultation with a plastic surgeon to discuss your goals and be measured. After I measure and discuss goals with my patients, we then look at pictures of women (my patients) with similar measurements with different size and style breast implants. They also get to see what they would look like when the breasts have fully dropped and fluffed and in clothes. You get to see actual results and the surgeon's experience and not a virtual idea of what can be achieved. Women tell me that this process is very helpful in determining what size and style breast implant is right for them. Dr. Ted Eisenberg, Board Certified Plastic Surgeon and Author.
