5 weeks post op rhinoplasty, not happy with the results. Advice? (Photo)

Question

A month ago I got an open Rhino. I had my tip lifted, bridge shaved down, and nostrils were made smaller. Although it looks better, my nose is still big and looks extremely weird and almost polly beak. I know its swollen but I’m just not confident that it will get smaller and look better. It doesnt look how I wanted it to. so depressed idk what to do. When I got the cast off it looked much smaller. Its just huge now idk what happened?

Hi and thanks for the question and photos. At 5 weeks, there is certainly still quite a bit of swelling in the nose. This is especially true in the supratip, the area above the tip. This swelling can cause a “pollybeak” shape on profile view. Ask your surgeon about a Kenalog (steroid) injection to reduce the swelling and scar tissue formation more quickly. This might need to be repeated a couple more times. Also ask him or her about taping the supratip at night to reduce this fullness. Hang in there! Hello and thanks for the question. Since it is only 5 weeks after surgery there is still a tremendous amount of swelling. From the photos you have shared it does seem like you've had a nice improvement and many of the goals you stated have been achieved. The tip swelling takes the longest to resolve (some people say up to 1 year or more). One the cast is removed the nose tends to swell because the cast is helping to keep the swelling controlled.  This is normal.  
You should discuss with you surgeon ways to expedite the resolution of the swelling. Some options include icing the areas as well as gentle massage.  The most important thing is patience. Hope that helps and good luck

Hello, and thank you for your question. Following a rhinoplasty, it can take up to a year to see final results. At five weeks post-op, you will still have some swelling which can alter the look of the nose. Be patient, and if you are still unhappy with the appearance of your nose after a year, contact your plastic surgeon. Best of luck.

If you liked the appearance right after the splint/cast was removed you will likely like the final result.  At 5 weeks you still have considerable swelling.  If the photos are before and after then I think you will be pleased once the swelling resolves.  It will take close to a year to see your final results, be patient.  Good luck and be sure to discuss your concerns with your surgeon.
