2 weeks and 2 days post-op my left incision has had dark red blood coming from it for 2 days. What could this be? (photo)

It’s been two weeks and two days after my BA. Under the muscle, inframammary, Natrelle SSX 580cc(R) and 545cc(L). My left incision (545cc) has a little dark red blood coming from it for the last two days. The steri strips are dark red and I have been putting gauze over. Feels a little irritated. Right one is perfectly fine and not bleeding. What could this be?

I would see your surgeon so he can look at the incision line. If could be a hematoma breaking down and the old blood coming out.

Thank you for sharing your question and photograph.  Most likely either a small incision separation has occurred or a small hematoma has liquefied through the sutured cut.  Because of the timing, I would advocate seeing your surgeon for an in-person examination of your tissues to ensure nothing else is taking place.

I understand your concern. However, without a proper assessment it would be difficult to determine what is wrong. There is a chance that your bleeding from incision is caused by hematoma. It is best that you visit your plastic surgeon for further assessment. Only after thorough examination you can get proper recommendations and advice.

Bleeding from a breast augmentation 2 weeks after the procedure is definitely unusual. Perhaps you have an small undrained hematoma.Definitely meet with your plastic surgeon to be evaluated. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you for your question. It is not common, but may be small hematoma got liquified and draining through incision. I recommend you to see your PS for evaluation.

It is important to have an in-person medical assessment regarding this issue as it is difficult to determine virtually. Continue to update your doctor in the matter and follow their post-op protocol.

Please ensure to get cleared by your doctor before engaging in specific physical activity before the 3 month healing period has ended as the healing stage is crucial for healthy results.

It generally takes around 6 months to a year to see your final results. Your tissues will take time to relax and allow your implants to "Drop and Fluff" settling into place. Should a revision cross your mind, it is best to wait at least 6 months to a year before doing so.

Our tips for recovery following breast augmentation are to wear a supportive sports bra for 3 months post-operative and refrain from lifting anything heavier than 10 lbs for 3 weeks as we don't want any strain at your incision sites. Make sure to keep the area of your stitches clean by cleansing with hydrogen peroxide daily. Showering is encouraged! But, no sitting in water for 2 weeks following surgery (no baths, hot tubs, pools etc.).

Staining of steristrips after surgery is not uncommon. However, if it becomes necessary to overdress the steristrips to prervent bleedthrough, it would be wise to notify your surgeon and have the wound examined and the steristrips replaced.
