Is Miradry Permanent or Not? A Surgeon on This Site Stated That the Procedue Only Lasts Up to 2 Yrs. Say It Ain't Not So!

The studies done only went up to 2 and 3 years... but we expect it to be permanent.  

Although miraDry is
getting a lot of attention recently, it has actually been around for a while.
It has been extensively studied and there is no cancer association. The FDA has
cleared it for safe use as well. The microwave energy only penetrates 4-5mm in
depth and heats up and destroys the sweat and odor glands. The energy does not
reach lymph nodes or deeper structures. I have had the procedure done myself
and it has truly been a gift. One and done for 80% of people! In the long
term, much more cost-effective than Botox which has to be repeated every 3-6

It’s difficult to define whether MiraDry treatment is permanent or not. We like to describe the improvement seen with MiraDry treatment as long-lasting. Our typical Miradry patients have reported an average of 70% imrpovement at one year and 60% to 70% improvement at 2 years with single treatment. The results are even better with 2nd treatment. We believe that MiraDry has long lasting effect on sweat and odor reduction. You may experience mild tapering of effect over time but that’s expected out of almost any treatment. Most likely you will not return to your pre-treated level even several years down the line.

Continuation of the miraDry underarm sweat reduction study in Canada now shows that results are stable for 3 years.  Since the number of sweat glands in our body don't increase after puberty, and the underarm glands are eliminated by miraDry, the expectation is that the results will last well beyond 3 years.

MiraDry has been a very effective tool for eliminating underarm hyperhidrosis in our patients at SkinCare Physicians in Boston. Success rates are high, with national data trending over 95%, with similar results in the clinical trials.

A lot of physicians who have not done miraDry seem to make comments about the procedure. MiraDry is a relatively new procedure but there is clinical data from outside the US shows that it is a lasting procedure. Nobody can tell you if it will continue to work in 8, 10 or 20 years (because it hasnt been out that long), but, in our practice, if it works (> 95% chance), it continues to be effective. We don't do sympathectomy in our practice anymore for isolated underarm sweating. We stopped doing suction curettage for underarm sweating. miraDry is the preferred treatment in our practice for patients who don't want to come back for more procedures like Botox every 3 months.

miraDry uses electromagnetic wave energy to heat and destroy sweat glands. Sweat glands, to the best of our knowledge, do not regenerate. As a result, we expect the results from miraDry to be very long lasting, and this is what we have seen so far in clinical practice.

The published studies to date show results up to 2 years because that is the longest followup period currently available. Anecdotally, there are patients who are now more than 4 years past their miraDry treatment, and their results are still lasting.
