Hello - I would like to determine if caffeine a vasoconstrictor or constricts blood vessels. Specifically I want to know if coffee could inhibit or slow in any way the establishment of the blood supply to the fat transferred to breasts. Six days ago I had a fat transfer to breasts and have stayed off coffee just in case, but can't find conclusive information. I have also asked my doctor. Thanks for any insight.
Answer: Caffine Hello, high amounts of caffeine is indeed a vasoconstrictor or constricts blood vessels which may inhibit the healing process of fat transfer and may inhibit the amount of blood circulation that helps keep the fat harvested alive. If you're thinking of having one cup of coffee, tea, or coke, that's fine. I do not recommended more than that post surgery.

Answer: Coffee Coffee is usually not strong enough to make much difference on small vessels' blood flow, so drink up what you want.

Answer: Does caffeine constrict blood supply to the fat transferred to the breasts? The only opinion that matters is that of your PS; ask him or her. I know of no studies indicating that caffeine has ill effects on fat transfers. Kenneth Hughes, MD, ABPS Board Certified Plastic Surgeon Los Angeles, CA

Answer: Coffee impairing circulation? Interesting question! Caffeine intake will not hurt circulation or take of your fat. In fact, many of my patients complain of headache after surgery and I encourage them to resume usual caffeine intake so they don't feel as poorly!Best of luck!

Answer: Caffeine after fat grafting Caffeine does not cause significant vasoconstriction such that it would impact your result following fat grafting. I think the headache that you might have with caffeine withdrawal would be worse. Drink your coffee and rest easy!
