Hard lump 5 days after lip filler in top lip. Worried could possibly stretch skin on lip line? (photo)

Question

The lump seems like to much filler has been injected into one spot, i was expecting it to go down after five days although it is still the same. It is tight to smile only on the side of the lump, also to note i had 0.5ml. Im also worried as the lump extends over the lip line, is it possible it could stretch this area and create lip lines (smoker lines) ? Also do you think its worth going back or waiting for it to go down, if it will. Thank you

There can be some swelling and/or lumps after lip injections which can last 1-2 weeks. You can apply firm pressure between two fingers on the lips for a few days, for 5 mins a time, in order to help decrease swelling and even out the lumps. If you're unhappy with your final results you can have it reversed with hyaluronidase and try a different technique next time. Best, Dr. Emer

Don’t worry your filler lump cannot create stretch or lead to smoker’s lines. Call your injector to see if it’s appropriate to massage or not. Consider Restylane Refyne next time - it does not lump.Best wishes. Dr. Aldo

This can be typical after lip injections. I would wait a full 2 weeks before judging the results. If it is after the two week wait, you can have the filler reversed with hyaluronidase.

Swelling and lumps can occur after lip injections.  Most issues will resolve after two weeks.  If you still have concerns at that time you can return to your injector to have the product dissolved.  The product will not stretch out your lips or create smoker's lines.
