Do I have a Vascular Occlusion from a filler or is this normal bruising? (Photos)

Question

I had a filler on my tear trough on Thursday 14th of Sept. There was bruising on my left side but no bruising on the right. The photos are from Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights respectively. Is this normal? I notice my bruising started to become yellowish at the bottom part but the colour hasn't really changed for the top part ? Is this vusclar occlusion ? Also, I only had about 0.05ml on each tear trough, the rest were put onto my lips and the tip of my nose

I would say your photos show bruising but not vascular occlusion after the filler you had injected into your tear troughs.  This should resolve completely with more time.

This appears to be a normal bruise. It is not a vascular occlusion. It will fade. You can use topical arnica gel to help bruise fade faster.

Necrosis is typically VERY painful and has a specific color.  Bruises tend to be sore and with multiple colors that include green-yellow.

This appears to be a regular bruise, which is common after filler injections. It can take up to a day for a bruise to show up and it usually resolves in 1-2 weeks. Necrosis of the skin or an embolism leading to blindness is caused by injecting filler into a blood vessel, which is a rare complication. It is associated with severe pain, purple discoloration of the skin and the development of small bumps or blisters. Your picture shows no evidence of this and the yellow discoloration is typical of resolving bruise. If you remain concerned I suggest following up with your physician.

Thank you for your question. This is normal bruising. I would not be concerned. It will resolve in the next several days. The under eye area is very prone to bruising and swelling. Best of luck!

The pictures are more consistent with bruising than vascular occlusion. Bruising under the eyes can persist since the skin in the area is very thin, therefore, any discoloration becomes evident. I would continue to closely monitor the swelling to ensure that it is resolving. If there is any increased pain, spread of the discoloration, change in vision, or discharge from the area, I would contact your injector immediately. To help promote healing, refrain from any excessive exercise, avoid medications that thin your blood including herbal supplements, and abstain from manipulating the area. From your picture this appears to be typical bruising that is seen after injecting this area.You do not report any discomfort in the area or worsening of the blue/purple color.  You should however contact your provider with your concerns and  to be reevaluated if needed.

While I would definitely recommend that you speak with your injector and return for a recheck,  it appears that you have a normally healing bruise from the pictures that you have provided.  Given the timeframe you reported and the areas treated, the photos also appear more typical of a bruise. Additionally it would be more typical to have significant pain with vascular occlusion.  However it is obvious that you are very concerned so I would recommend that you speak with your physician as soon as possible to have the treatment area rechecked to alleviate any concerns.
