ummm, So I never do drugs and I actually did MDMA the night before my pre-op appointment and totally forgot to mention it to my surgeon. It was before my two weeks and before I met with my surgeon. I did read upon it and it says it takes 1-2 days to clear out of my system, so will I be okay? I'm so embarrassed to telll my surgeon.
Answer: MDMA prior to surgery The chance of the MDMA affecting your surgery 2 weeks after you took it is extremely low (assuming you have not used any other drugs before or since then). I would be slightly more concerned about medication / anesthesia drug interactions than anything to do with the actual surgery, however I still think the risks are probably negligible. Since I'm not an anesthesiologist, the safest bet would be to speak with your anesthesiologist prior to surgery to double check on the situation. As medical professionals, we don't tend to judge our patients- we just want honest information so we can protect your safety. If you are still worried about discussing this with your surgeon, you can request to speak with the anesthesiologist or a member of the anesthesia group that will be taking care of you to discuss things. This way the safest decisions can be made with regards to your care. Best of luck!

Answer: MDMA before surgery Dear Itty, MDMA, also known as Molly or Ecstasy is an Amphetamine and can have very bad interaction with anesthesia , leading to severe complications including death. If you took it 2 weeks before surgery, it is most likely cleared from your system. However, it is unacceptable for a patient not to disclose to the doctor any information pertinent to surgery, especially with drugs that can kill you. It is your safety, and you do not have the professional knowledge to know what is important and what is not. Only your doctor is able to make the correct judgement. So, even tough you are embarrassed about your situation, it is in your best interest to reveal it to your surgeon and the anesthesia provider. They might want to test your system, to be sure that you are clean. That is what I would have done with you. There is nothing more important than your safety ! Best of luck, Dr Widder

Answer: MDMA and surgery It's understanding that you're embarrassed about it, but it is also critical that you are up front with your surgeon, so do make that uncomfortable call. Your safety is what the surgeon has in mind more than anything.
