Hi & thank you for your question.I have my patients up and walking that day. You will be bent over but that will get better as you begin to heal.Contact your surgeon for his /her instructions. Best of luck.
I recommend walking the day of surgery and several times a day after surgery. This helps to keep the blood from collecting in the legs and also helps you to take deeper breaths. Of course this is just a slow stroll around the house. Good luck with your recovery!
Although it is uncomfortable patient should be ambulatory immediately after a mommy makeover when an abdominoplasty is part of the operation. This decreases the risk for pulmonary problems including pulmonary embolus. Specific instruction should come from your surgeon.
This is something you need to discuss with your surgeon. For my patients, I want them to ambulate (walk) every hour while awake at home to reduce swelling and promote blood circulation. But I want them to avoid strenuous activity, lifting or bending. Good luck.
Immediately after surgery, within the first few hours, the patients will walk in a slightly bent-over position. Start walking flexed at the waist (in a stooped position) for a few minutes every 1-2 hours the evening of surgery and continuing daily except when sleeping. This will minimize your risk for blood clots. Wear your TED stockings. Following the tummy tuck procedure, you should be in a flexed position to minimize tension on the incision sites by to bending at the hips (waist) in order to reduce tension on the newly tightened skin. A recliner chair is perfect for this purpose but a pillow beneath your knees and several at the head of the bed will work well also. A 'reclined' or sitting position relieves tension on the incision. During the 6 weeks after surgery: -In about one week you can gradually stand up straight.-Gradually increase activity as tolerated.-No sexual activity for 6 weeks after surgery.-Wiggle your toes and move your ankles in circles in bed every hour.-No heavy exercise, bending, lifting, baths, swimming, sun exposure, smoking, alcohol or sportsfor 6 weeks following surgery after your surgeon has given you clearance to do so.-Limit napping to one short nap (less than an hour) per day to prevent sleep disturbance at night..-Strenuous activity and the lifting of more than ten pounds must be avoided. Many patients are able to return to work and daily activities within 2 weeks of surgery. Softening of the surgical scars, return of sensation, and loosening of the tight sensation may take several months. Abdominoplasty recovery can be in some cases slow and uncomfortable requiring more time for a full recovery. Light activity is comfortable in 10-20 days.-Sports will be more comfortable after 6 weeks. #recoverymommymakeover #mommymakeover
I appreciate your question.I have my patients up and walking the same day of surgery. Best to check with your surgeon and see what their specific post op protocol recommendation is.The best way to assess and givetrue advice would be an in-person exam. Please see a board-certifiedplastic surgeon that specializes in aesthetic and restorative plastic surgery.Best of luck!Dr. Schwartz
Patients should typically be walking the day of their surgery in order to decrease the incidence of blood clots forming in their legs. Ask your surgeon if they have specific protocols as this may vary.Best wishes,Dr.Bruno
In my opinion, you should start walking the next day after surgery. This is important to keep the circulation in your legs moving to prevent the formation of blood clots
Ideally, one should be walking around following cosmetic surgery that evening after the surgery. This helps reduce complications especially the formation of blood clots in the legs. There may be some instances where your surgeon recommends that you don't walk initially. If so, your surgeon may employ other measures to help reduce the formation of blood clots.
It is essential that you are up and walking around the house immediately, around the block in 3-5 days. Jane
SO long as you document you are not still pregnant and document that there are no retained "products of conception", that would be plenty of time without concern so long as everything else is ready as well.
I recommend contacting your insurance carrier to find plastic surgeons who are in your network. Please note the insurance will only cover the hernia repair portion. The breast augmentation and tummy tuck are considered cosmetic and will not be covered by insurance.
Typically it's recommended that patients do not fly for a few weeks after surgery. Flying can increase your chance of developing blood clots which can be dangerous. There are efforts that can be made to decrease risk when flying such as wearing compression stockings, moving about the cabin...
