I am searching for a plastic surgeon to give me a silicone breast augmentation with an abdominoplasty. I would like to know are there any plastic surgeons that except bluecross / blueshield in order to cover the cost of the hernia repair/tummy tuck as to bring down the overall cost of the procedure? If so, how does one go about doing this? I have already been approved for the hernia repair. I just need to locate a Dr. who will do it.
Answer: Plastic surgeons that accept Blue Cross/Blue Shield? Many surgeons accept Blue Cross. However, this would not be expected to cover breast augmentation or abdominoplasty. It may cover the cost of a hernia repair. The easiest way is to get on your telephone and called local plastic surgeon offices that are in your area and that you would be willing to have perform your surgery for a consultation and a discussion.

Answer: Insurance I recommend contacting your insurance carrier to find plastic surgeons who are in your network. Please note the insurance will only cover the hernia repair portion. The breast augmentation and tummy tuck are considered cosmetic and will not be covered by insurance.

Answer: Insurance and BA Unfortunately, each insurance company has their own criteria. Large breasts (macromastia) or breast hypertrophy can occur in a variety of conditions (family trait, post pregnancy, excessive adolescent growth). In general when the excessive breast size causes functional problems, insurance will generally pay for the operation if more than 400 – 500 grams are removed from each breast dependent on your individual insurance company requirements. These problems may include neck pain, back or shoulder pain, hygiene difficulty, and breast pain. Other problems which are less likely to be covered by insurance include skin irritation, skeletal deformity, breathing problems, psychological/emotional problems, and interference with normal daily activities. Pre-authorization by the insurance company is required prior to surgery, and the process takes approximately one month. Each insurance policy has different guidelines and exclusions. This procedure is commonly covered by insurance through insurance criteria are becoming more and more restrictive. Although we do not accept insurance, our staff will assist you in obtaining pre-authorization so that you can attempt to be reimbursed for out of pocket expenses

Answer: Are there any plastic surgeons that accept Blue Cross/Blue Shield? Unlike hernia repair, insurance companies generally do not cover tummy tuck surgery. In other words, insurance companies do not consider this operation medically necessary. Best wishes.
