Birth Control/Piercings & Liposuction?

Question

Hello! So I'm looking to get liposuction in my arms and abdomen in the near future. Problem is I have Nexplanon/Implanon (can't remember which brand) in my arm and a naval piercing. Silly question, but would I need to remove either or both prior to surgery? Is there anyway to keep both in or would that possibly complicate the healing and recovery process?

The risks and benefits in your particular case will have to be weighed, and the surgeon you select will have to make a decision. Birth control hormones (The Nexplanon implant has lower levels of hormones and only has progestin, not estrogen.) are out of your system within 24 to 48 hours after removing the implant. However, it can take several weeks or even months for your hormone levels to return to normal. Ask your OB/GYN for a more definitive answer.
 For the manner in which I perform tumescent liposuction, the nipple ring could be left in place.

The belly piercing would need to be removed for the procedure, but you could replace it the next day. the arm implant may be out of the way, or your surgeon could just avoid that area.

The piercing will likely need to be removed for access to the abdomen during your liposuction. The implant may also be removed depending on its location in the arm and where you plan to have liposuction. If the implant is not in the way and you can liposuction and avoid the area, then it can stay in the arm. Hope this helps!

Most surgeons and or operating rooms are going to ask you to remove piercings.

The issue with birth control is that no plastic surgeon or OB/GYN can give you 100% assurance that the device will work as normally after having liposuction.

Most plastic surgeons are probably comfortable doing liposuction with the birth-control implant in place but will not speak on behalf of hormonal absorption or mechanical function of the implant in regards to liposuction.

My best guess is the device will continue working the same even if adjacent to the areas being treated with Liposuction but considering the steaks I don’t think anyone will guarantee that.

If you happen to be at a time frame where it’s relatively soon in regards to needing to replace it then coordinating these two processes makes sense.
