Is this a dog ear? What are my revision options? (Photo)

Question

Is this a dog ear? And is lipo my only corrective option? Is liposuction my only option now or would another in-office dog ear revision help to improve my tummy tuck results? I've had a revision to correct a dog ear after an extended tummy tuck, but I feel like she still hasn't excised enough skin. What should I do or have done to improve the appearance of my side and hips? I have "hip dips" which I hate as well.

Hello, thank you for the question and your photos! It is difficult to tell with just photos if you have excess skin remaining or just small pocket of fat in the area. If it is excess skin, this can be improved by surgical excision (another dog ear correction) or occasionally a minimally invasive skin tightening device, if it is minimal. However, if it is excess fat, liposuction is a great way to help with the contouring. Your hip dips may be less noticeable with liposuction contouring around them, but if the indentation is too much, you may consider fat grafting to the area as well.

Once result of your abdominoplasty is stable (at least 6 months after surgery), you may consider fat transfer as a way to augment and shape your hips and gluteal concavity. In person consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon with good reputation in body contouring surgery would help. Good luck.

You should include how long ago your revision was done. If it was recent you need time to heal and let the swelling settle down before judging the results.

Technically most correct treatment for dog ears is extending the incision but they can be corrected to some degree with Liposuction as well.

Sometimes a combination of fat and skin removal works best.

This is one of those things that some plastic surgeons do better than others.  Much also depends on the amount of skin laxity the patient had to start with.
