Is it uneven swelling normal for Rhinoplasty right after cast removal? (photos)

Question

I had my cast removed two days ago and was horrified to see my nose is more crooked than it was before the surgery and hasn't changed much in size. I see a difference in my profile, but the front looks exactly the same, if not bigger. I can't help but be disappointed, how long before it all goes down?

Thank you for your question.  Its too early to determine if there are any asymmetries.  The splint holds the soft tissue shape to however it was molded, so if the surgeon isn't careful about molding it to look perfectly straight, it will initially look asymmetrical, but this doesn't have any effect on the long term outcome.  It will only make you worried temporarily.  Noticeable swelling is expected for 2 weeks and moderate swelling that obscures the final result will last months to a year depending on the individual surgery.  Your bruising is very severe including the subconjunctival hemorrhage of your eyes.  This may indicate that you have even more swelling that the average person.  Keep in contact with your surgeon, but your nose does not look unusual for being 2 days removed from getting the splint off.  All the best!

Swelling is just beginning to resolve at this point. You also appear to have had more than just a rhinoplasty performed. Your swelling is on the more severe end for this point following surgery but that is not typically something to worry about. Everyone heals differently. The bottom line is that you will see dramatic improvements in swelling over the coming week and months but it will take a full year for you to heal completely. It is not uncommon to have some asymmetrical swelling after the splint is removed. Basically the splint molds the swelling so if it is pinched a bit more on one side, than the other may retain more fluid. During surgery, the structure of the nose is manipulated and the swelling obscures those changes. it will take time for the swelling go to down and see those changes that were made. Please give it time and keep the dialogue open with your surgeon. Best of luck
