Can skinny people get breast fat transfer done?

Question

I am 160cm weighing about 47/48kg with very skinny upper body and a heavier lower body. I always hated my thigh and calves and wish I could have those fat on my breast instead. I know I'm on the skinny side and was wondering if this surgery is possible for someone like me.

A fat transfer to your breasts can increase your cup size some if you have enough donor fat to harvest from other areas of your body. I have had excellent results with purified fat transfer to the breast but managing expectations with the patient is key. Generally, patients can go up one size maximum. I recommend an in person consult with a board certified plastic surgeon who can evaluate how much fat can be removed at your current size. Then they can also give you a better idea of what the expected results would be.

I see a lot of people in my office looking to have a breast enlargement with their own fat.  It is an amazing procedure but has some limitations that I spend a lot of time discussing with my patients.  The most important thing to me is to meet and hopefully exceed my patients' expectations.  To do so they need to know exactly what to expect from breast enlargement surgery with fat transfer.First, you need fat to transfer.  If you are too skinny you can't find fat to harvest.  Often the bum is the only place with fat.  But people (excuse the pun) don't want a flatter bum.  It is stylish these days to have a fuller back side.Second, you need a place to put fat.  In order to have the highest rate of fat graft survival you can at most double the size of your breast at the time of surgery.  When all is said and done your breast could be 50-60% bigger afterwards.  If you want great breast enlargement than that use an implant or plan for a second fat transfer surgery.Third, fat survival is dependant on technique.  Not all surgeons do this procedure with the care required to get the highest fat survival rate. Even great surgeons may lack the patience to place each drop; required for best results.

This is a very good question.  In order to be a good candidate for fat transfer surgery, you must have enough fat to be harvested for the procedure.  As long as you are only looking for a minimal increase in breast size, you should be fine.

is a very successful procedure provided you are not wanting a marked increase in size or a lot of upper pole fullness AND you have somewhere fat can be harvested in adequate amounts.  If you're bottom heavy and its fat, great!  If its muscle, you may not be a candidate for this procedure.  Invest in a consultation to see what can be done for you... and ask if the surgeon does fat grafting to breasts as not all do and you don't want to waste your time, or the surgeon's time in that scenario.

As long as there is a donor site with adequate fat, well done liposuction can harvest this and it can be transferred to your breasts. Calf liposuction in particular rarely yields a lot of fat, but if your thighs have adequate fat this may be enough. The other question is what your goals are. A single stage fat transfer to the breasts typically provides modest increase in size, possibly 1 cup size long term. In person consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon experienced in fat transfer is important to get definitive answers to your questions.

As long as you have some areas of fat excess you can do a fat transfer.  The fat is harvested from the areas of excess and grafted into the areas you want to enhance.  During your consultation you can create a plan with your surgeon to find the areas of your body you want to harvest and plan the grafting into the areas you are enhancing.  You will need to determine if the harvest sites will yield enough to get the results you desire.Best WishesDr. Peterson
